Enterprising Croydon

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been working with Lorraine Bell, an experienced business advisor and mentor, and Tom Brooks at Croydon Business, in setting up and running business startup workshops in Croydon.

Unlocking potential

We’re doing the work for Croydon Enterprise whose aims include, “Raising awareness and unlocking the entrepreneurial potential of key target groups to enable them to capitalise on their potential and competitive advantages and identify new opportunities for enterprise.” (I think that means that they want to support entrepreneurial people to start up businesses which grow and thrive.)

There have been two types of workshops, both using our workbooks. The first has been aimed at people who are thinking about starting a business, called Before You Begin, and the second have been more in-depth sessions, for those people who are ready to start. Called Start Your Business Step by Step — these four workshops cover all aspects of starting, particularly finance and marketing.

Energy, focus and commitment

It’s been one of the most rewarding pieces of work we’ve done in ages. The people are energetic, focused, excited and committed. There is no doubt in my mind that if they continue like this, they’ll make it.

A really great group of people. I wish them well in their business ventures.
